The Smart Sharps Bin is a complete injection care management system to help you stay on track with your at-home injection schedule. With the companion app and monthly subscription, the system motivates you to take injections on time, tracks your progress, provides secure injector storage and enables hassle-free sharps disposal through our prepaid mailback service.

We highly recommend using the app to get the full benefit of the system. However, as long as you have your membership, Smart Sharps Bin can work without the companion app.

You can set up your treatment schedule online using the companion portal, or just call our Customer Care team. They can take the information you provide to set up your treatment schedule and reminders and assist you remotely as needed. Your Smart Sharps Bin LCD screen will track your On-Time Score and will notify you about your next scheduled injection time and injection site. You’ll receive personalized reminders on your Smart Sharps Bin and also by text message. Plus, when the Smart Sharps Bin detects that your bin is almost full, a new sharps container and mailback package will be sent to you.

Want to download your injection history? You can do that on the online portal, or the Customer Care team can email you a copy of your injection history logs.

The Smart Sharps Bin is suitable for most injectable medication that is self-administered at home. Cancel your membership anytime on your subscription manager, in the companion app or companion portal,  or by contacting the Customer Care team. At the end of your current monthly payment cycle your membership will end and you will no longer be charged. Please know that an active membership is required to use the Smart Sharps Bin.

Smart Sharps Bin weighs 4.4 lbs. (1.98 kg). It measures 7 in. (178 mm) tall by 9.5 in. (241 mm) wide) by 9.25 in. (235 mm) deep.

How to use the Smart Sharps Bin

Once you’ve received your Smart Sharps Bin, getting set up couldn’t be easier. Download the Smart Sharps Bin Companion App to create your account, add a subscription if you don’t already have one, and set up your injection schedule and personalized reminders. The app will walk you through each step. If you need help, our 24/7 Customer Care team is there to support you.

Because we believe that better connection leads to better health, the Smart Sharps Bin allows you to securely share your injection history with people you select.

The Smart Sharps Bin system tracks your injection progress and builds individualized reports. These can be downloaded and printed for you to use as you choose.

You can add up to two people to your Inner Circle. This means they will receive secure text message reminders to help you to stay on track with your medication. You may select a family member, supportive friend, or caregiver who can be your accountability partner and cheer you on. If you would like to add anyone to your Inner Circle, contact our Customer Care team at 855-512-0423.

The Smart Sharps Bin system will alert you when the inner sharps container is almost full. When you see this message, it automatically triggers a request for our team to send you a replacement sharps container and a prepaid mailback package for the old one. Simply place your full sharps container in the package and send it back via the U.S. Postal Service for proper disposal.

To replace the inner sharps container:

1.     Open the side door by pressing on it and slide out the full container from inside.

2.     Close the top sliding door until it locks into place. The full sharps container is now ready for disposal. Once you slide shut the door on the inner sharps container, it can’t be opened again.

3.     Slide the new container into the Smart Sharps Bin, ensuring that the door on the top lid is open and positioned on the front of the unit, so that the door is on the same side as the chamber that accepts your used injector or syringe.

The  Smart Sharps Bin is designed to manage one injectable medication. This ensures the accuracy of your data and reminders.

The Smart Sharps Bin is designed to support one person and one injectable medication at a time. The system is tailored to a single user’s individual treatment plan and communication preferences so it can maintain accurate adherence tracking and send reminders when an injection is missed.

To safely dispose of your full sharps container using the mailback kit:

Close the top sliding door until it locks into place. 

Carefully place the locked sharps container into the provided plastic bag and seal it using the zip tie.

Place the bagged container into the inner brown mailback box, inside the outer white mailback box. Tape both boxes shut.

Remove the tracking document from the plastic pocket on the outside of the white mailback box. Make sure the information in Section 1 is correct, then complete Section 2. Keep the bottom blue copy for your records and replace the remaining copies in the plastic pocket.

Bring your mailback package to any U.S Post Office, give it to your USPS mail carrier, or use this online tool to schedule a free pickup.


Important: To keep postal employees safe, please follow U.S. Postal Service regulations.

Do not overfill the sharps container.

Do not place any other hazardous waste or radioactive contaminated sharps or waste in the container.

Do not place any liquids in the container. Total residual liquid must be no more than 50 ml.

The maximum weight per sharps container is 10 pounds.


If any part of your mailback kit is missing or misplaced, do not substitute other components or mail back your sharps container. Please contact the Customer Care team for assistance.

Injection and tracking adherence

Medication adherence means the extent to which you take your medication as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Adhering to your treatment plan is essential for helping you get the most out of your prescribed medication. However, many people who are prescribed injectable medication have a difficult time staying on track. That’s why we invented the Smart Sharps Bin system.

Your On-Time Score measures how often you take your medication as scheduled, motivating you to stay on track with your treatments. The On-Time Score calculates the percentage of injections that you took on time compared to the total scheduled drops during the set time period. 

On the day your injection is due, your score will decrease until you've taken that day’s injection. “No Drop” means that no injection was recorded for one of your scheduled injections. If this information is incorrect, please contact the Customer Care team to update your records.

The green, red and yellow sections in the On-Time Score wheel are meant to help you stay on track and monitor your progress.

Please allow a few minutes for your On-Time Score to be updated while your Smart Sharps Bin and Companion App are syncing.

There are three ways to confirm that you took a scheduled injection:

1.     Simply dispose of your used needle/pen/injector in the Smart Sharps Bin, and the drop will automatically be recorded.

2.     You can report a drop to the Customer Care team anytime by phone, chat or in the app.

3.     Use the “Record an Injection” feature in the app.

If you miss a scheduled injection, contact your healthcare provider for guidance.

If you are away from your Smart Sharps Bin when you take one of your scheduled injections, it is important to update your injection records as soon as possible to ensure that your smart reminders are accurate. To do this, log in to the Smart Sharps Bin Companion App (or Companion Portal) and follow the prompts to “Record an Injection.” Or, if you prefer, contact the Customer Care team with the details of your injection, and they can update your records for you.

Each time a deposit is made in the Smart Sharps Bin, an embedded camera in the sharps deposit drawer takes a photo of the deposit, scans it, and creates a data record that is matched by the underlying ODM (object document mapper) technology to your injector type and schedule. This data drives the Smart Sharps Bin injection management system.

Matching this record to the database records for your scheduled injections enables us to send you smart reminders. If you dispose of your used injector before your first reminder is sent, we will not send you a reminder to take your medication that day (because we know you already did!). If our system notices that you have not taken a scheduled injection, we will send you a motivational reminder so you can stay on schedule with your prescribed injection regimen.

Our system also detects when your inner sharps container is reaching capacity. We’ll automatically send you a new sharps container and a prepaid mailback package for hassle-free replacement and proper disposal.
